Miroslav Lajčák, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, received Franco Frattini, the former Italian foreign minister and the former vice-president of the European Commission, within the framework of the GLOBSEC security conference today (19 April 2013).
The partners focused their discussions on the internal political developments in Italy following the recent parliamentary and current presidential elections. The topics of their talks also included opportunities for development of Slovak-Italian bilateral relations. “We have strong interest in intensifying our bilateral cooperation in political as well as at trade and economic areas, and we would like to use that existing potential,” Minister Lajčák said.
Minister Lajčák and Mr. Frattini also exchanged opinions on timely European and security-political issues, including the issue of the candidacy for the post of the NATO Secretary-General, which will become vacant in August next year.
