RASSEGNA STAMPA - Frattini with Borisov: Bulgaria meets all technical criteria for Schengen

Sofia. “Bulgaria has met all the technical criteria for accession to the Schengen area and I think that the European People’s Party (EPP) should work out a decision so as to avoid future delays, because certain countries’ resistance at the moment is a political opposition.”

This is the position of Franco Frattini, former foreign minister of Italy and former European Commissioner, expressed at his meeting with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, the press office of the Bulgarian government announced. 

Mr Frattini is in charge of the coordination and issues connected to the foreign policy of the EPP. He was on a one-day visit to Bulgaria and will take part in a public lecture themed Changing Challenges before the Security of Today’s Changing World. 

At the meeting with PM Borisov, Frattini expressed his positive impression of Bulgaria’s progress in the absorption of EU funds, the realisation of big infrastructure projects, and the strict observation of the financial discipline and economic stability.

PM Boyko Borisov introduced his guest to the implementation of the projects in the fields of ecology and archaeology and stressed on the contribution of the European solidarity to their realisation.

“Impressive, unbelievable progress for such period of time, and this is a clear signal to those, who are sceptical about Europe,” Franco Frattini remarked.
